Rose Sari / 4.5'L - 1.5'W
My mother, my inspiration, was a fabulous knitter as well as an accomplished painter. I began knitting my own creations at her knee.
Abstract Knitting began many years later, when I discovered unconventional needles which were 2-foot long and 2-inches wide! This discovery suggested exploring knitting with equally unconventional materials which then inspired me to utilize thin-gauge wire instead of yarn. I made a group of pieces which became Not-A-Shawl-At-All, wearable, elegant, wire shawls with contrasting silk ribbon flowing around the edges.
I have now made a series of large-scale wall pieces using the forementioned needles and recycled silk from Indian saris. These current large-scale wall pieces have allowed me to blend my considerable knitting skills into abstractions which work with color, surface, and texture as a non-figurative, landscape painter might.
